The Shadow of the Westside
May 1995. The smooth, bouncy rhythm of Montell Jordan’s "This is How We Do It" echoes from car speakers, masking the grim reality on the streets below. Outside, the Westside of Chicago is consumed by the suffocating heat of the crack cocaine epidemic.
For Latasha Sharp, this wasn't just a news headline—it was home.
Growing up in the crosshairs of addiction, murder, and unpredictable violence, Latasha was forced to navigate a childhood steeped in chaos. Her family’s darkest moments played out in front of the world, leaving behind a trail of reckless danger and devastating tragedy. Trapped in an unstable home, a young Latasha carried an agonizing weight: suffocating guilt for the sins of others and horrors she couldn't control.
The ghosts of her past didn't stay in Chicago. They stalked her into adulthood, whispering lies of unworthiness, fear, and irreparable loss.
Until the day she turned around to face them.
#Forgiven is Latasha Sharp’s chilling, raw, and deeply moving two-part chronicle of survival. It is an unvarnished journey through the valley of trauma—and an astonishing testament to the ultimate power of redemption, healing, and freedom.
About the Author
Raised on the Westside of Chicago by her praying grandparents, Latasha Sharp pulled herself from the wreckage of a home torn apart by heavy drug abuse, domestic violence, and soul-crushing loss. But the fire that was meant to destroy her only forged an unshakeable strength.
Today, Latasha is a fierce, battle-tested life coach, an entrepreneur leading a successful marketing and notary firm, and a two-time author (co-author of I Am Not My Mental Abuse). Alongside her husband, she steps directly into the trenches to serve the homeless community—offering direct prayer, mentorship, and a lifeline of hope to those trapped in their own dark nights.
A mother of two, Latasha stands as living proof that no past is too shattered to be rebuilt, and no soul is ever too far gone to be #Forgiven.
